A Cuban on the R.M.S. TITANIC // Un Cubano en el R.M.S. TITANIC

There was only one Cuban Citizen on the R.M.S. Titanic. His name was Servando Jose Florentino Ovies y Rodriguez. He was born in Cuba, on February 21st, 1876 and died when the R.M.S. Titanic sunk, on April 15th, 1912. He was a Merchant in Havana, Cuba and had embarked on the R.M.S. Titanic at Cherbourg, France, on April 10th, 1912. He was a 1st Class Passenger (Ticket Number 17562 and he paid approx. 28 British Pounds for his Ticket). He was in Cabin D-43 and all that is known is that he died during the sinking of the ship. He did make it to the water as the Ship sank and he drowned. His body was recovered by the C.S. Mackay-Bennett, which recovered 306 bodies from the water. His body was the 189th recovered. He had dark hair and was found wearing a black coat and a vest, blue serge pants and a grey shirt marked "J.R.", there were no marks found on his body. His body was transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and he was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery (Catholic), Row 2, on May 15th, 1912.
